About Us
Background
We are an organization of ethnically, racially, economically, religiously and professionally diverse women. We strive to improve the quality of life for collegiate women and the community by recognizing each woman’s unique qualities and by building upon them, which is why our motto is “Unity in Diversity.”
While other Greek organizations are and continue to grow more diverse, KLXi explicitly seeks out members with multicultural ideals and interests. The founders envisioned this sorority as a vehicle to educate the surrounding campus and community on issues of diversity. Through our inner strength and our bond of sisterhood, we will continue to break down barriers and to exceed all expectations. The Change is here and now.
In the vein of economic diversity, we believe that no woman who wants to help us in our mission should be stopped because of financial issues, so we keep our membership dues at $15 a month.
Our History
Kappa Lambda Xi Multicultural Sorority was established on October 7, 2003, by a group of women from the University of Maryland in College Park (the Alpha Chapter) and the University of Long Island in Brooklyn (Beta Chapter).
KLXi’s symbols:
- Colors: Black, lavender, and white
- Mascot: Phoenix
- Jewels: Diamond and amethyst
- Flower: White rose
KLXi's philanthropy:
Our philanthropy is juvenile autism, a cause few know about and fewer understand – this is why KLXi adopted the phrase “Decoding Darkness” to explain our philanthropy. We strive to educate the community and raise awareness of this puzzling and unclear disorder.
